Hand and Wrist Surgery

I qualified in medicine from King’s College London in 1993. I gained my Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons of England in 1997 and my Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons in Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgery in 2003. I completed the University of Cardiff Masters degree in Orthopaedic Engineering in 2003, achieving a distinction. I undertook my Specialist Registrar training in Orthopaedic surgery at the Robert Jones and Agnes Hunt Orthopaedic Hospital in Oswestry and its associated hospitals. As a senior trainee I completed specialist fellowships in hand and wrist surgery: firstly, at the renowned “Pulvertaft Hand Centre” in Derby and subsequently at Wrightington Orthopaedic Hospital. I was appointed as a substantive Consultant Orthopaedic and Hand Surgeon in 2005 at The Rotherham Foundation NHS Trust. Since my appointment at The Rotherham Foundation NHS Trust my key aim has been to work with my colleagues to further improve and widen the scope of upper limb surgery as well as improve outcomes and patient experience. In addition:

  • I am an examiner for the University of Sheffield Medical School

  • I have recently been appointed as an examiner for the FRCS (Tr. & Orth.) examination, the highest level of professional qualification awarded in surgery in the UK

  • I regularly teach on several postgraduate courses nationally in relation to hand and wrist surgery

  • I have active research interests with the aim to further improve treatments, pain relief and outcomes for people with hand and wrist conditions

My prime aim is to provide my patients with a timely, personally tailored service underpinned by the latest evidence-based medicine. To achieve this I practice a holistic, multidisciplinary approach utilising a number of advanced and innovative treatment techniques. I believe that: “In the race for excellence, there is no finishing line.”
